April 10, 2015

It’s Palm Sunday weekend and I am rejoicing as I write this! I love Palm Sunday for many reasons.  We opened our doors on Palm Sunday five years ago today!  I didn’t plan on it but it was totally a God thing and God has shown Himself in this in so many ways. So on Palm Sunday, in 2010, we opened our doors for a 50th birthday party for me, and many friends were present and lots of surprises!  Friends came from out of town and our building was packed.  My husband knows how to throw a party and every little detail was covered.  We had a date to be open in October in 2009 and here we were in March 2010, and the building was finally finished and Mike had to talk me into opening on the day of my birthday.  It wasn’t really my plan and I wasn’t fond of it at first, but Mike persisted that it would be a blessing and so I AGREED!

If you look on the north wall when you come in the front door of Habitué you will see a beautifully framed piece of art that is actually a huge puzzle that our family and many friends have put together!  (That is a story all in itself, maybe at a later time!)  It took us about 1-1/2years to do it and it was in our home on several large tables that we had to move around for graduation parties and so forth.  It was a gift from a very dear friend and ministry partner, Teresa Shaver.  God used it in my life in so many ways and when we were working on it and even when we finished it, I still didn’t know where it was going to go.  It didn’t dawn on me until we had finished the building and were hanging things on the walls and doing the finishing touches and all of a sudden, I knew!  You see, we had picked out scripture verses and our colors and so forth were all done and the wall was just waiting for this last piece that would bring it all together!  I love it when God does that and He surprises me and connects the dots and finally, I get it!  So imagine this - all the verses in the building on the walls from the front to back door and even upstairs and our signature verse that encircles the space that you can see from upstairs to downstairs all come from Psalm 118.  Psalm 118 is all about Palm Sunday - the triumphal entry - and Jesus coming to save us and the preparation of the Bride of Christ so that we don’t miss His second coming into our city and our world!   Again, I AGREED with God and brought the puzzle here and it matched our colors perfectly!

We have been working, and learning, and changing, and growing for the last 5 years.  We have now added Betty’s Cakes to our bakery business and we are heading into bridal season and because we have been cooperating with each other and God, we are making progress!  I have been transitioning our team and our business so that we can streamline and really make Betty’s Cakes a part of what we do every day.  You see, it is about working out the steps and the travel path of what we do and how we do it.  It really is about cooperation and re-thinking everything, while trying to come up with the best plan to do the work efficiently and with excellence.  We have come up against some things that we had to make a decision to AGREE and keep moving forward.  You see if we don’t AGREE and keep walking together, we begin to go separate directions and that won’t work.  One of my favorite verses about agreement that I have quoted many times through the years - and mostly in relation to marriage - is from Amos 3:3.  “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?”   Another of my favorites is from Psalms 133 - “ How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!”

I look at this season here at Habitué as really being just another time of preparing and then walking out what we need to do in faith, trusting that God has us and it will take hard work and learning how to build team to support it.  Everything that is worth doing will be hard and will be a challenge that we can look at as a great opportunity!  I still believe that the words on our walls will ring true for us and will be our victory!  We are in a season of preparation again, and now we are working with brides and guests that we can celebrate with in the seasons of life!  It’s what we love to do!

So this month, we will walk together in AGREEMENT and I am asking God to show me how to conciliate and bring people to harmony and agreement.  We are getting ready! We want to be ready for what God has called us to do here and we want to be ready for the return of our King!  King Jesus!  Psalm 45 says this and we pray it for ourselves and for our brides that we serve: I am in agreement with the Psalmist in this passage and say - “Beautiful words stir my heart.  I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a ready writer...The bride, a princess, looks glorious in her golden gown, in her beautiful robes she is led to the king, accompanied by her bridesmaids.  What a joyful and enthusiastic procession as they enter the king’s palace!”   So be it!  Amen!

Hosanna!  Hosanna!  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!  We are all that bride and we are being prepared for our king!  Let’s walk in AGREEMENT with the Holy Spirit and walk in step with Him and with others.  We can rejoice and be glad in it!

Revelation 7:9-10 - “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number of all nations, tribes, peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb! “
